Senior placekicker Freddy Cortez kicked a 25-yard field goal with six seconds remaining to give the Kent State Golden Flashes a thrilling 45-42 victory over the Ball State Cardinals Saturday afternoon before 21,657 fans at Dix Stadium.

 
 
KALAMAZOO, MI - Junior running back David Fluellen rushed for a career-high 213 yards and three touchdowns to lead Toledo to a 37-17 victory over Western Michigan at Waldo Stadium Saturday night.

– With the MAC’s top two passing offenses facing each in good weather, conditions were ripe for scoring. Throw in some struggling defenses and conditions favored an offensive explosion. That’s what happened Saturday at InfoCision Stadium as the Miami RedHawks edged Akron 56-49.

 
 
DEKALB, Ill. -- Junior running back Leighton Settle scored three touchdowns while rushing for 152 yards on 23 carries to lead Northern Illinois to a 55-24 victory on Saturday afternoon at Huskie Stadium.  Junior quarterback Jordan Lynch gained 144 yards on 21 carries with a touchdown and went 14-of-32 through the air for 215 yards and another score.

With a banged-up quarterback and a tired defense struggling to take care of business against the UMass Minutemen, the Ohio Bobcats needed someone to step up to keep their perfect season alive. They got the spark they needed from running back Beau Blankenship, who powered the ‘Cats to a 37-34 win at Gillette Stadium Saturday.

As the Ohio Bobcats put non-conference play in the rear-view mirror, they begin the long and winding road that is the MAC season Saturday when they ship up to Boston for a matchup with the UMass Minutemen.

    Mike Smith saw his first MAC football action as a nine-year-old while hanging onto the flagpole of a nearby baseball stadium. The view got better after he discovered he could get in free at halftime.  Decades later, he can usually be found either on press row or along the sidelines.

    Mike has won awards for both his stories and pictures during his time in journalism. 

    Combining his own skills with those of other writers and photographers, along with conference and school resources, he constantly works to provide an enjoyable MAC product.
